Day 5

A looser schedule on Friday allowed the Polish group to organize a trip to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. We visited the Statue of Liberty grounds, as well as the Ellis Island Immigration Museum, a site showcasing the history of Transatlantic (mostly European) immigration to the United States. The exhibition included both a historical overview of immigration and Ellis Island-specific artifacts such as old passports, registers, parts of the facilities, and the immigration center’s furniture. As Saturday was the day of departure for most students at the symposium, the formal schedule of the trip concluded on Friday with a visit by part of the students and faculty to the Metropolitan Opera.
